What is grief

What is Grief?

Grief is the emotional and physical reaction to loss. This is especially pronounced when a loved one dies.

We react to this type of loss with sorrow deep within our hearts and minds, upsetting the normal thoughts and feelings we are used to experiencing. Grief can run through your soul and flood your mind with sadness so great that you literally lose track of time, or does time stay still? As my brother said a year after our dad had passed away. " This past year didn't even register"

Grieving a loved one can be so powerful that it affects the body too, resulting in fatigue or sleeplessness, headaches and appetite loss, and much more. Grief has a way of taking over if you allow it.

Surround yourself, with those that will give you space to cry alone (or not) and lets you wrap your mind around what is actually happening. In my case, I did not want to be around anyone after I lost my dad, I didn't want to talk, I didn't want anything but to be alone!! I didn't know how to act, I couldn't stay still, and I didn't know what to do. I felt like I was in a trance, it didn't seem real. I am however so grateful to those who kept checking in and making sure I was still alive, making sure that I had ate and If I needed anything to call them. Some even said things to make me laugh and it helped!

So, I will end this with saying, don't forget about you! Make sure you are getting through the stages of grief, but in a healthy way that won't cause you more harm than good.
